There will be many of those seemingly meaningless exhibition games, but they do have an important purpose -- to prepare teams for the coming regular season. The 2025 Maelstrom College League schedule has been announced and the preseason starts today. |  | Wednesday, January 15th, 2025: Off-Field Accident Injures Tod Wynn The Stanford Cardinal will be without starting pitcher Tod Wynn. He has a fractured hand, which will sideline him for approximately one week. The Cardinal manager called the loss of Wynn "a tough break."
Since joining the league, Wynn has compiled an ERA of 2.21 with a career record of 53-25. He has 1099 strikeouts in 770.2 innings and has held opponents to a .180 batting average. |  | Friday, December 20th, 2024: MCL News: First-Year Player Draft The Maelstrom College League baseball moguls will be maneuvering, conniving, and cajoling today to get the pick of the litter in this year's amateur draft. They will be drooling and salivating over the new pups available in the rookie player draft. Georgia Tech, Texas, Rice, USC and Ohio State have plenty to bark and yelp about, since they will have the first five picks. In the opinion of most baseball experts, these are the most highly prized players in the 2024 draft:
1. Steve Pumphrey, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school. 2. Bonifacio Menjibar, 18 year-old second baseman out of high-school. 3. Alfons Mosley, 18 year-old catcher out of college. 4. Seville Moreno, 18 year-old left fielder out of college. 5. Bernardo Echevana, 19 year-old closer out of high-school. 6. Steve Hogg, 18 year-old shortstop out of college. 7. Jack Burchfield, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of college. 8. Chale Jayme, 18 year-old left fielder out of high-school. 9. Paolo Peralta, 18 year-old first baseman out of college. 10.
